Mobile NFC in 2008 a Great Success!

Thank you to all of our speakers and partners at Mobile NFC 2008.

The event was a great success, and enjoyed a fantastic buzz on site, due to the o2 NFC trial results released on the same day. With 89% of o2′s trial participants saying that they would use their phone as an Oyster card, if given the chance to continue, only handset range, security, and commercial modelling remain in the way of consumer acceptance of NFC leading up to the 2012 London Olympics. (Incidentally, Visa mentioned at the conference that, as a key sponsor at the games, it hopes to make the entire Olympic village cashless one to watch at Mobile NFC 2009!)

at the conference only solidified the press courtship of this new and enticing end-user product.

Furthermore, our Play and Display session (with Monitise, Nexperts, Proxama, and Vivotech) helped to contextualise the applications which NFC will help to enable, with smart posters, money-transfers, and coupons all enabled by delegates, and talk of integration into the social welfare and healthcare verticals not far off.

Our best wishes again to our speakers, partners, and audience at Mobile NFC 2008. We hope to see you next year for more exciting news!

Mobile NFC 2008 in London next September

Following the resounding success of informa’s inaugural Mobile NFC event in London, the event returns for it’s 2nd edition with a completely updated programme, new case studies, more networking and expanded sessions to cover all aspects of NFC technology and applications.

For a number of years, the potential of m-commerce has been much hyped but has seen its growth thwarted by a lack of technology advancements and regulation. Mobile NFC has helped buck this trend and enabled real m-commerce applications to come to market. The ease of use and customer acceptance of this technology (based on the success of current contactless solutions) could see widespread Mobile NFC usage acting as the tipping point for the progression to the ubiquitous mobile wallet.

The potential of Mobile NFC technology to enable a multi-layered transaction offering is only the tip of the iceberg. Amongst the other potential Mobile NFC applications being explored include interactive advertising, conditional access to vehicle/property and initiation of personal area networks.

The exploration of the applications of Mobile NFC technology and discussions around the development of the technology itself will be the focus this key annual event.

You are cordially welcome to the next Mobile Monday Italy that will take place at "Restaurant & Art Bar Le Biciclette" in Milan on Monday, 26th of May 2008.

Ten times as many consumers are expected to use Mobile Banking in 2011 compared to last year, according to a Juniper survey released May 14 2008.

It was reported that the 816 million consumers will access banking services and products through their mobile phones in three years. Financial information services are forecast to be the most popular banking product accessed through mobile phones, and the report on the mobile financial services sector states that respective institutions are delivering more and more products and services through mobile phones.

The number of annual mobile banking transactions will rise from 2.7 billion dollars in 2007 to 37 billion by 2011, around the globe as banks continue to deploy more services.

Juniper also found that financial transaction values will almost double from 2007 to 2011 worldwide, and they will become four times as common in emerging markets during that time. China and surrounding areas will have the greatest number of people using mobile banking services, followed by Western Europe and India and surrounding countries.

The security efforts have been improved to grow the consumer confidence and raise service use.
